Our Aspirations are Our Possibilities – Robert Browning
Her mornings are full of hope, peace and dreams – she keeps her inner turmoils at bay during this time of the day. Meeting with the Boss will decide the future equations – fly high or stay grounded; forever. Sipping her favourite Darjeeling tea she brush off the fear, and glides down memory lane reliving every moment and her only dream – to fly away..
Born in a simple family of Accountants (munim) in Moradabad; Uttar Pradesh, Naina always wanted to do something different and unusual. Her poetry and catchy jingles made her famous with friends in school, but teachers always had lots of complaints for her parents. Father never raised his voice on her, but he disapproved this poetry & writing. “This all is a total waste – what will you achieve with this? Study well in accounts or else we will search a groom for you.” With lot of difficulty and several requests at the influential places he secured an admission for Naina in one of the best colleges in a big city – her new address is now College of Commerce, New Delhi.
She was an average student in academics but English literature & theatre – outstanding, at least her best friend would approves this. However, her classmates in this college tease her to be at the wrong place – ‘What are you doing in this College madam – jaao kahin jaake kisse kahaniya banao’. She would simply gulp these taunts and leave the place for good, on the other hand her marks were never celebratory for her father. It was that time of year when college was bustling of activities, Annual Year Celebrations has just began. Lots of plays, skits, theatre has been planned months before the final event. She approached managing committee of seniors with a script of a play, only to get responses like – ‘Who are you? A random girl from Moradabad, is it’s in India?’. ‘Small townie, do you even know what is called – Script’. ‘Theatre does not mean picture hall – it’s an art’. Etc etc… and no one gave her any chance to present the idea – her dream.
The play was very immature and theatre was mediocre for her taste, she called it monkey show in the name art. A senior overheard her conversation and cornered her to either apologise or do an act right away to prove them wrong. She was so hassled that her confidence gave in and turned into tear making machine, it was a dark tunnel with no escape. Rest of her college days went by in oblivion, she studied as a robot, scored good marks to get placed how her father wanted. A giant e-commerce firm picked her as financial analyst. A dream lost in aspirations – of others.
She dragged back to present day by an angry doorbell squawking for attention, she went to see who has derailed her memory trail. It was the security guard of their building along with a post man, ‘Madam, I have been telling this idiot post-man there is no one with the name of ‘Broken Feathers’ in this building, but he does not want to listen. See this package address is your madamji, but the name is so weird.’
“Err… It’s okay Bhaiya, you can leave this here. Watchman if you receive any courier/package for this name – send it directly here, that weird name is MINE”. She has been writing under a shadow name since years, a pseudonym but today with this arrival things have changed. Her work has been accepted with a world-famous publishing house as an Elite List of Writers. Her meeting in the office today will give her freedom back to live the dream she has been dreaming since childhood. An author spiraling stories, a poet creating magic with words, a free bird taking a high flight of dreams she was scared to think of once…
Author’s note – we all have some aspirations or dreams in life, however few have the courage or strength to convert them into opportunities. Those few are extra ordinary people who get to live their life fullest, it’s the responsibility of family, friends, society, peers to encourage them to dream – dream so that one day it will come into reality. The pressure from folks not only crush these dreams but take the life out of body – whatever left behind is just a robot. Today on the mark of 71st Independence Day, let us take a pledge to help our dear ones in dreaming – and help inspire them to make these dreams possibilities.

Good one Dipika. I am sure most of us are not doing the job which we aspired for when we were young, but somewhat got in a whirl and going round and round. It takes lot of courage to leave that whirl of fear, anxiety, failure. Some succeed.

Lovely read Dipika. I loved the closing note by you as even I strongly feel that we all have aspirations and dreams but there are hardly few who can fulfill them.
This is such an inspirational read. I call myself a Dreamer, and strongly believe that we all should dare to dream & follow them with full passion.
I’m glad you took up this topic. We are parents should also ensure our kids are liberated and free to choose their areas of interests, pursue them and excel in them. Rather than forcing academics upon them.
