We have been hearing/reading about the health benefits of Soy Protein a lot recently. However, most of us are convinced that it is just like any other protein, only made out of soybean. Well, once you read this post through the very misconception of judging Soy Protein as ‘any other protein‘ will shatter itself.
DuPont is a global leader in the Food & Beverage, Dietary Supplements and Pharma Excipients segments. Recently, they invited a group of health enthusiasts, bloggers, and knowledge experts to discuss the Power of Soy Protein, in Mumbai. Health and Lifestyle being my favorite subject, I could not resist the offer. We have learned about various health benefits soy protein offers over an interactive session.
What is Soy Protein everyone is talking about?
As the name suggests, this product comes from the plant Soybean. It is a superior plant-based protein because most of the other plants lack some amino acids making them weak to provide high-quality yield.
Soy protein is superior among other proteins on the basis of its protein quality and proven health benefits. It also has all the essential amino acids in the proper ratio hence, considered as high-quality protein. In contrast to animal protein, soy protein offers numerous health benefits. It also has low fat-content and saturated fats. Cholesterol and Lactose-free. In my previous post – The Global Trendsetter in Dietary Supplements Reveals Probiotic Benefits, detailed more about the health benefits of soy products.
Let’s talk about the Health Benefits of Soy Protein
In this post, we will talk about Why I prefer Soy Protein over other proteins?
Keeps your heart healthy –
For first, as mentioned above it has various health benefits, first being plant-based protein. Low in fat content and saturated fats, soy protein is a healthy heart food. Soy protein helps in reducing cholesterol levels, keeping heart diseases at bay. As part of a healthy diet, soyfoods can replace less healthy foods that are high in saturated fat and cholesterol.
Lactose-Free for lactose intolerant people –
Being Lactose-free it makes the perfect food for lactose-intolerant people. Especially, kids, I have seen and know many kids who get severe allergies with dairy-based products. Soy milk powder or formula milk help babies born as lactose intolerant. Though it cannot compensate for the benefits of breast-milk but can fulfill the infant’s other growth needs.
There are various delicious and yummy options available in soy protein-based products. DuPont showcased a few of their products during the bloggers meet.
Weight Management with Soy Protein –
Soy protein helps in weight loss programs and weight maintenance regimes. Bodybuilding exercises and sessions demand stamina, Whey Protein is a known product to help fitness enthusiasts meet their goals. However, the catch is the time duration. Research suggests soy protein provides long-term benefits in weight loss and ‘weight-maintenance’.
Including soy protein in our daily diet helps in maintaining weight. For elderly and aging people, plant-based protein is the best choice as its easy to digest and is cholesterol free. Hence, making it help them lose weight and also maintain it.
Muscle Growth with Soy Protein –
Including soy protein in the daily diet promotes healthy muscle growth and helps reduce loss of lean body mass during weight loss. Various studies have shown that the intake of soy protein in adequate amounts, promotes fat loss while preserving any damage to muscle mass. Taking soy protein in combination with whey has various proven benefits for highly active individuals.
