anger management

No one likes to be angry or screaming all the time, but weย all have those moments when sanity leaves us temporarily and we end up yelling/fuming/screaming a lunatic’s way. Once the tide of this outburst fades away, we end up being – guilty! Guilty of behaving a particular way which we despise, does this happens with you?? If yes, welcome aboard dear friend – today we will talk about the reasons mommies get angry and how to self-control it – Anger Management.

Anger management – spy mom

Firstly identify the weak points where you loose self control and transform into a screaming ‘monster‘, it could be as trivial as kid not listening or being adamant or any x.y.z. reason.. most important is use your best weapon – instincts and chart down the reasons we loose our grip on controlling anger. Say for example in my case I loose my sanity over two things –

  • when she doesn’t listen to me, even after saying it multiple times
  • if she still doesn’t understand why I am telling her to STOP trillionth time.

I know, we all sailing in the same boat – that’s what ‘mommyhood’ is all about isn’t it? ย As a parent, we are balancing many different hats at one go – work, home, kid, social, family, etc… hence it is natural to loose our turf at times and yell on the most loved treasures of our live’s – KIDS when they donโ€™t cooperate or things go hay wire. Apart from kids associated stress there are many other factors which can lead to being agitated/irritated, like –

  • lifestyle related stress
  • uneven sleep pattern
  • dehydrated body
  • PMS
  • weakness, etc.

So, once our 007 James Bond kind of spying tells us the reasons of falling prey to ANGER we are one step close to solving the problem – via Anger Management Tips & Techniques.

anger management

Anger management – ideas to self-control anger

I firmly believe in self-healing or self-controlling process, our brain has capability of moving mountains (not quite literally please) when determined. Hence, managing anger related issues which are by-products of our life-style or stress is just a fickle. Here are some easy ways to keep the hooter under tight control –

  • Calm Down and Relaxย
    • Best calm down activity that I do when anger attack struck my sanity is – Drink Water. Yes, as easy as that – drink a glass full of water and count 1 – 10 or 100 depending upon your temperament ๐Ÿ˜‰
    • Relax, take deep breaths and listen to yourself – once you listen to your agitated voice or shrill, brains instantly command’s you to slow down.
    • Do what you like most – cooking, listening to music, writing, having tea, dancing or whatever pleases you.

anger management

  • Have you picked up Yoga/Meditation yetย
    • I am still learning the art of self restraining by concentrating all energy via meditation, it is something I recommend to all my readers. Benefits of Meditation & Yoga is known to all, but this is the time to take a step towards implementation
    • Start from beginner resources available online, or enrol in yoga class easy do-at-home yoga/meditation tricks also help in relaxation and boosting self control.

anger management

  • Accept and move on – It’s alright if you have committed a mistake, after all we are all human first and then Mommy.ย Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word – Elton Johnย said so ๐Ÿ˜‰ but yes saying Sorry to the victims of our outburst is healthy, it releases us from in-built guilt. (though when the victim is husband, it’s tough to cough up sorry ๐Ÿ˜€ ) This is the most effective trick of Anger Management.
  • Practice makes a Mom perfect – keep practising the habits, things, remedies, tricks that keep your anger at bay. Failed once, twice, thrice makes you so rich with experience that you will outshine.
  • Take a Day Offย – plan a day out with friends or go on a shopping hike or self pampering regime, anything that gives you a break from monotony of daily routine. Pro Tip – Keep daddy dear as baby-sitter and enjoy your day out. (trust me all the parties will love that, read here)
  • Keep a close watchย – Be watchful, even when you loosing grip on your anger make sure a strict control over your limbs. Hitting in anger would be the worst lesson you ever wish to teach your child, if the situation gets so out of control – the best remedy is leave that place for a while. Once, the senses comes back in your control talk it out and let it GO.

Always remember what our great book of wisdom says –ย

“Hell has three gates – lust, ANGER and greed”. – Bhagavad Gitaย

I would love to learn more about the Anger Management from all you readers, please share some tips and techniques you adopt to control Yelling ๐Ÿ™‚

Its been more than 10 days now that I caught up in anger but yesterday night- I failed. Was not getting enough Husband’s time. I scolded Kiddo due to the accumulated emotions. Feeling the guilt now. I think I should resort to sorry now.

    gleefulblogger · July 24, 2017 at 7:55 am

Thanks for stopping by Upasna, yes we all have our tipping points. At times thr control just crashes off. Just a sorry solves it all. Have a stress free time ๐Ÿ™‚ and lots of cuddles from lil one

These are great tips! I have to admit, i go get very irritated sometimes and yell at Karma when she is really acting up. Though I have learned to be more patient, there is always room for improvement. And to be honest, your post is helpful not just for dealing with kids but also managing ourselves and being calm in general. ๐Ÿ™‚

Minakshi Bajpai · July 25, 2017 at 4:41 am

My husband tells same to me – To sit down, relax and count till 10 to get a hold of ‘Mother’ inside. I am a patience less person. My tiny kids face a lot because of my anger. Although i practice few of the things already like keeping a close watch upon myself but there is a long way for me to go. I just wish to learn anger management skill on time.

    gleefulblogger · July 25, 2017 at 6:44 am

You are superwomen Minakshi nothing is tough for you.. more power to you

Mahak @babyandbeyondin · July 25, 2017 at 5:43 am

I think that taking a step back and counting to 10 is the best way to calm yourself down so that you don’t do or say anything rash in a moment of anger.

Anger Management is a tough subject to deal with. We cant be too harsh and cant always let it go. In a child case we need to take so much care. Your tips are useful and easy to follow.

Hena Jose · July 25, 2017 at 12:08 pm

I can for sure relate myself with this post. I thought of myself to be a calm and quiet person. But once kids came into life I discovered that I too have an emotion called Anger. One thing I discovered off late is as they are growing up, my anger is reducing, probably because I am not that much tired.

Nayantara |MommyingbabyT · July 25, 2017 at 3:12 pm

You write really well Dipika. Anger management is so important especially with my small baby. He seems to imitate and screams nowadays. ๐Ÿ™ I am trying my utmost to be patient but yes I do lose it at times. I have started going out and spending time with friends or something i enjoy. It has made me a calmer person.

Loved reading this post ๐Ÿ™‚ I am poor in anger management but the best things that works for me is distracting myself and eating something. I am a big foodie and relishing some sweets always makes my mood better.

    gleefulblogger · July 26, 2017 at 2:53 am

I heard eating in anger ignites the metabolic ratio and we tend to eat more …. justsaying.

Mamma Bear | Nikita · July 25, 2017 at 9:42 pm

I donโ€™t have many tips to share but I really think stepping away from your child (provided the child is supervised by someone else or is in a safe place like a crib) does wonders to calm me down. I will try drinking water and counting to 10 too, I am sure that will help. And meditation seems to be the answer to most things so I am seriously considering doing that anyway.

Deepika Verma · July 26, 2017 at 2:20 am

I have often realised that the cause of anger is more often our own frustration over which we have no control, which when let lose comes out as anger. If we can control and manage this frustration, it will help with anger management too.
