If you’re here and reading this, it’s no secret to you that MBBS is one of the most preferred career choices in India. But, even with its top position on the list of most sought-after jobs, the admission conditions are less than convenient. There are many candidates, a deficient number of seats leading to high cutoffs, exorbitant fees- the list of difficulties students have to face is endless. And to find an alternative that solves most of these problems, aspirants have started to consider MBBS abroad.
Now, when it comes to foreign colleges, there are several misconceptions among Indian students and parents- the most common and biggest one being that they are infinitely more expensive than the med schools here. Which is factually and statistically not true. A medical study abroad for Indian students is quite beneficial in many ways. Here is a list of 10 benefits of pursuing MBBS abroad for Indian students:
Better Education Infrastructure
Foreign colleges are equipped with the latest instruments in their laboratories, updated curriculums, and better research resources.
- Better student-teacher ratio
The student-teacher ratio plays a crucial role in determining the quality of education. A lower ratio ensures individual attention to students in the classroom. For example, the student-to-teacher ratio is around 1000:1 in Indian medical colleges; it is a mere 7 to 7.5:1 in colleges in the USA.
- Affordable tuition fees
In India, the fee structure for a seat in a private medical college ranges between 30- 80 Lakhs. However, in countries like the USA, the tuition fees fall somewhere between 15- 60 Lakhs, significantly lower than the former and more manageable.
- No donation
Most MBBS colleges here charge vast amounts of donations or capitation fees apart from the tuition fees. This is not the case in medical colleges abroad, making the cost considerably lower.
- Less competition
The seat availability is, more or less, in proportion with the number of applicants, which makes for lesser competition and more opportunities.
- More and better job opportunities
Most foreign are National Medical Council approved, so after completing their studies abroad, young professionals have various options to choose from. For example, they could come back to India to practice as doctors or work overseas.
- No Entrance Exam
Aspirants do not have to give separate entrance tests; the eligibility criteria for MBBS abroad for Indian students is simple;
- Minimum percentage of 50% in 12th with PCB as their subjects.
- Minimum 40th-50th Percentile in NEET-UG.
- The candidate should have passed the language test.
- Scholarships
To encourage more international students to apply to their college, medical schools abroad offer several different scholarships and financial aid consisting of fee waivers which can be very helpful for certain aspirants.
- Better experiences
Living in a sheltered environment in your home country robs you of many unique experiences. However, residing and studying abroad among peers and faculties of different backgrounds and cultures will hone your personality and give you a better idea of navigating through difficult situations.
- Medium of instruction
This is less a benefit and more of a reality to be taken advantage of. English being one of the main languages taught in India, adapting to the medium of instruction in countries like America will not be a problem.
All these advantages point to one conclusion, studying MBBS abroad for Indian students is worth it!
