Parambrata Chattopadhyay – A Smart Actor And A Smarter Producer – I am a movie enthusiast, and quality cinema always attracted me. When it comes to choosing between a flashy commercial movie and a content-driven movie, my first choice will always be the latter. Talking about contemporary and parallel cinema, there are many actors who have surprised us with their ace acting skills and mettle. One such outstanding actor is Parambrata Chatterjee. I was dumbstruck by his performances in Kahaani (2012) and Pari (2018). This made me do some research on his marvelous acting career in Bengali cinema and trust me – he is an outstanding performer.

About Parambrata Chatterjee

Parambrata Chatterjee has created quite a mark in both Bengali and Hindi cinema with a diverse acting experience. With an illustrious career spanning across television series, telefilms, short films, and feature films. Parambrata has been an actor, director, and even a producer. A known name in Bengali cinema, he eventually made his way into Bollywood with powerful roles in films like Kahaani and Traffic. Now, he is headed into the web space as a producer with a Bengali thriller series called Kaali.

Kaali – delineating power of a mother

Starring Paoli Dam, Shantilal Mukherjee, and Rahul, Kaali is a Bengali thriller web series that is streaming on ZEE5. It follows the story of a single mother whose son is in trouble and needs a huge amount of money for his surgery in a couple of hours. In the process of getting that money, the lines of a good and bad blur for Kaali as she dives into Kolkata’s dark underbelly, desperate to save her son’s life.
After having captured the interest of people through content-rich films. Kaali is a step forward for Parambrata towards repeating that same magic in the digital space.
But how does Parambrata pick such amazing stories to make? The answer lies in the movies he did in the past as a director and actor.

As a Director

He made his directorial debut with a telefilm called Premer Golpo in 2006. He followed it up with two more telefilms before heading to the silver screen with the 2011 comedy film Jiyo Kaka. Continued to taste success in direction with films like Hawa Bodol and the sports drama Lorai: Play to Live. 2018, he directed veteran actress Tanuja in Shonar Pahar. But his directorial prowess wasn’t just limited to film. In 2017, came his directorial web series based on the famous Feluda character. In the series, he also played the character of Topshe. The series was acclaimed for giving an edgy twist to the well-known stories written by Satyajit Ray.

As an Actor

Debuting as an actor with 2002’s Hemanter Pakhi, Parambrata has been known to juggle between a wide range of roles. This has made his performances a refreshing treat to watch over the years. He has been known to associate with both critically acclaimed movies and box office hits. Some of his best movies are Dosar, Kaalbela, Baishe Srabon, Kahaani, and Kadambari. He has even made his mark in the web space with the sci-fi short film Anukul. In this movie, he played the role of the titular robot, acing the complex character with incredible finesse. There’s also the Feluda web series which he had directed, where his performance as Topshe received critical acclaim.
With all the above facts in perspective, it is needless to say that the multi-faceted Parambrata Chatterjee is someone who is in the cinematic journey for the long run.
