Most recommended and easy to care Indoor Plants for Apartments – Plants make any dull place look happier, lively, and beautiful. Just a pot here or there can turn around a boring place into a vibrant and positive environment. You will agree with me, plants are like that 3 am friend who would listen to all our grievances with assuring nods and promise of a better tomorrow.

I have begun my urban gardening journey 2 years ago, from not so much of a plant person to a dedicated plant mother. However, the space crunch in metro cities, makes it super tough to have individual gardens or open spaces. Window sills, balconies, or indoor spaces are the only available utility areas to convert into green dreams.

Growing houseplants is a perfect solution for self-care and me time, something that we crave these days. For city-dwellers, small apartments are usually cramped for space, but with the right guidance and a little knowledge, these tiny spaces can also welcome greenery. Here is the list of best indoor plants for apartments or flats in the city.

1. Arrowhead Plant

The most forgiving houseplant! If I had to felicitate plants, this one will get an honorary title, for it’s selfless and unconditional love. Self-healing plant that requires no extra care, keep it inside the home or in balcony, arrowhead will bloom and spread charm forever.

Easily available in local nurseries around you or online space, the arrowhead is an economical choice and can be propagated easily at home to multiply into more pots/planters. The peculiar shape of leaves that resemble an arrow, hence the plant is named – Arrowhead.

2. Areca Palm – Best and a Low Maintenance Indoor Plant

Areca Palm is a known indoor plant for it’s air-purifying qualities. Also, this is one of the most common indoor plant you will find in residential or commercial places. The green fan like shrub makes it most sustainable houseplant for decorative and subjective purposes. Long-lasting with very low maintenance Areca Plam can grow up to 7 feet in height if given space and nutrition.

I have placed my Areca Palm in indirect sunlight in a medium size pot, the growth is very slow and steady and it spruce up the whole space with its presence.

3. Money Plant – Indoor plant with zero maintenance

One plant that you will find in almost every Indian home is, money plant. This houseplant is associated with bringing luck, prosperity, and positivity in home often finds it place in every corner of Indian household. Zero maintenance plant, as I prefer to call it, money plant can be planted in pots or as climbers. The vines can grow very long if given a chance, to perfectly cover the window stilt areas or otherwise.

Money plant is a all weather plant, with no to direct sunlight requirements. You can keep them in glass bottles, or hanging planters, this plant accommodates well in all situations. The large heart-shaped leaves makes it a perfect fit for any space.

Until last year, I did not know peace lily is an indoor plant! During my research for low maintenance indoor plants in India, I stumbled upon peace lily as one. This is the most beautiful plant with dark leaves and white bracts coming out almost like an exquisite bouquet. Peace lily requires low to medium light to grow, however, if kept in more light the plant flowers more.

As the plant looks very delicate, it hardly needs any care. Fertilizers once in a while, and water peace lily just once in a week. Keep the plant on a side table or on the center table in a designer pot to bring an exclusive appeal.

5. Snake Plant –

Do you know, this is one of the top air-purifying plants identified by NASA. Snake plant is most adjusting plant, that even a cat can grow it without any hassles. You get this plant is a decent sized pot, place on any side of the home and forget about it. Yep, as easy as that, it will still love you back.

Not at all an attention seeker, most comforting when you see the tall dark leaves with light variegation. Water only once in 10 days, keep soil well drained, and airy. That’s it, snake plant will thrive and make you a proud plant parent. A perfect houseplant and can also be placed in bedrooms with limited to no sunlight.

6. Monstera – Most Instagram friendly Indoor Plant

Probably the only plant that features in almost every second image on the Instagram (pun intended). Monstera is a beautiful plant which enjoys warm and humid climate, that makes it perfect for our homes. The broad green leaves can grow very large if placed in big pots, requires very less water with once or twice yearly fertilizer. Monstera can lit up any dull or small space, best suited for corners with low or medium light.

Conclusion

You don’t need a large palatial space for converting it into a green heaven, even small apartments with no to medium sunlight can have the indoor plants. With a basic idea of propagation, maintaining soil health, fertilizers you can become proud plant owners.
