Haircare Guidelines after a Hair Transplant Surgery – A hair transplant is a cutting-edge hair regrowth technique. According to hair transplant experts, people with significant baldness or hair loss should go for it. Because hair transplantation is a surgery, patients must adhere to strict pre-and post-operative hair transplant aftercare guidelines to get the best results. Based on hair transplant type, these guidelines may differ.
In this article, Dr. G.K. Sharma explains post-transplant care. Dr. G.K. Sharma is one of the best hair transplant doctors in Mysore. He is the chief surgeon at Regrow Clinic, Mysore.
The procedure of extracting hair grafts from a donor area and transplanting them into a bald site is termed hair transplantation. Patients must not wash their hair for some hours after having their hair transplanted. The following day, the patient can shower, gently running the water on the treated site.
How should you wash your Hair after a Hair Transplant?
After a hair transplant, the first time you wash your hair is often forty-eight hours after the surgery. On the third day, a specialist nurse should perform the process within the clinic.
Usually, hair transplant aftercare procedures, micro-wounds, and tissues take forty-eight hours to heal. After that, you are free to wash your hair, but with extreme care.
Dr. Sharma, a transplant surgeon at Mysore insists on keeping the below steps in mind. When you are cleaning your hair,
The use of a moisturizing lotion
- Applying the lotion to the donor and transplanted site is the first step before shampooing your hair.
- Apply the lotion liberally to both sides of your head and keep it on for thirty minutes.
Gently clean the scalp with a medicated shampoo.
Adjust the water’s temperature first. You need to keep the temperature at a lukewarm level.
Start washing your hair after rinsing off the lotion using water. Also, ensure that you do not leave behind any residues.
Rub a small amount of shampoo between your palms. Then, gently wash your hair in circular motions, massaging the donor and transplanted site.
Finally, lightly dry the hair over your scalp using a clean cotton towel without rubbing it dry.
During the first few days after bathing, you may experience minor itching and soreness in the donor site. On the other hand, this itchiness and soreness is entirely normal and will go away with time.
Applying the ointment
After your hair has dried, put the lotion on the donor and transplanted site. Ensure you do not use too much cream. A dime-sized quantity is enough to cover both areas.
It should be used two times a day, once after washing your hair and once an hour before going to bed. There will be no need to buy more when the ointment runs out.
After a Hair Transplant, How often should you Wash your Hair?
For two weeks, you should wash your hair every day or every other day (based on your doctor’s advice). It is enough to wash your hair one time a day for two weeks before returning to your routine.
Why do I need to Wash my Scalp following a hair Transplant?
The purpose of cleaning your scalp the day after hair transplantation is to remove any dried blood or scabs. This process shortens the recovery time, lowers the infection risk extending to your scalp. Allow your hair to air dry thoroughly after washing it.
What to Avoid after a Hair Transplant?
For the initial two weeks after surgery, avoid plucking, scraping, or scratching the transplanted area. It will help the newly transplanted hair to settle and get appropriately connected to the scalp entirely.
To clean the hair, gently massage the scalp with water two times a day. There is also the possibility of itching in the donor area. You must not pick up the scabs once they have dried.
Wash your hair with any light shampoo after ten to fourteen days and gently massage the transplanted area. The removal of scabs aids hair growth. Fresh hair growth will begin two to three months after the hair transplant.
