I read this beautiful quote while scanning through Goodbooks. At first, it didn’t ring any bell, but when glanced it again and read aloud it made complete sense. The real quote is –
Any Fool can be unhappy when the things are not Okay. But it takes COURAGE to be happy when things are falling apart.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
When things are falling apart, and everything turns out to be against us it’s easy to get demotivated and depressed. But it takes courage to stand tall and smile and think ‘this shall too pass‘.
Problems are like clouds you cannot predict when they arrive and cover your sunshine. I am sure we all have our own share of issues, be it small or gigantic. As per human psychology experts, we keep our mind surrounded by things which need a solution. We unnecessary flood it with self-inflicted doubts and reasons.
I often wonder, our mind is so bloody jobless? (pun intended) But think about it, isn’t it’s true. We keep thinking over things which cannot be controlled just by thinking, and then slowly submerge in the worry of not able to control it.
What has Courage to do with Happiness?
Courage has a great deal to do with happiness. How many of us have guts to accept life in it’s real form?
- When Neeta (name changed) realized she is a boy inside a girl’s body her whole life turned upside down. He wanted to tell parents, teachers, friends about the change, about his preferences but was scared due to social stigma. It crippled him from inside, the reality came to light only after he was charged for crimes like FGM (female genital mutilation) and murders.
- Anuj fell in love with Priya when he saw her the very first time. They got married and had a wonderful life when one unfortunate day he learned about the disease. He was infected by HIV, his guilt and self-pity took over and he chose a path Priya could never imagine. Suicide, he killed himself and left Priya to fight for herself alone.
- Sunit got promoted as Marketing Head with a salary hike for his dedication and commendable hard-work. With a new position and reputation to maintain, he bought a new home via bank financing. This new abode took his life’s savings and everything was on stake. But as his job was reaping good benefits everything was under control. Until the company ran into losses and filed for bankruptcy. Sunit was given a letter to leave with a salary just to feel them for two months. His dreams and credit-score took a nose dive and he decided to take things in own hand. Next day newspaper had news of a top-notch bankrupt MNC’s Ex-CMO jumping off from a bridge.
Reasons to Stay Happy
These stories are just not an act of fiction, few real-life stories I recall from national tabloids and crime-series television shows. There could be numerous situations, or reasons to be sad, but just one reason to be happy – Yourself. Accepting life as it is, and taking all challenges with a pinch of salt takes courage. So, next time when you feel dejected and at loss, get up and brush-off worries with a SMILE.

So true Dipika. It is so easy to be happy when everything is going right. However it takes true courage to grit your teeth and wait out the bad times.
This is so deep. Indeed it takes a lot of courage to sail through difficult times with a smile on the face. Guruji makes it sound so simple through his words.
I love it Dipika.. We all need a reminder of this mantra. It’s so easy to be pulled down at the slightest cause, but we must fight that urge!
Totally agree! It is up to us how we face the situation and find the reason to feel something better and come out the deep ocean of sadness. Life is full of up and downs, nothing is permanent so we have to learn the technique to be happy in all the odd situations for sure.
Thought provoking post and it really hurts how cheap people consider one’s life and end it in one go. You summed a v significant lesson for life buddy
I agree…it’s easier said than done but one had to remember that bad times won’t last. It surely needs courage and strength. Good one Dips!
So apt. During times of happiness its easy to be positive but in the testing times you have to find inner strength to sail through.
It is when we’re at our lowest that we’re tested the most. Giving up or taking an extreme step may be an easy way out but standing up against it with courage is what will turn it around. Well put, D.
Loved this post Deepika, The day when you gain the courage to withstand for the things you believe your life starts to change?
It’s the reason why we need to be grateful for the problems we face in life. For, it’s only then that we will realise what we are capable of and how we need to look for happiness in every moment, good or bad..
Soo true! Loved the post
Love the message you had shared in the post. indeed it is hard to be happy when things or situations are against you. after reading your post I am feeling positive and will try to be happy in adverse situations too.
It is hard to survive, when you are facing a big disaster. We choose a wrong path & destroy our life, when we are in trouble. Love this article;)
We all need to choose happiness in bad time.
I agree we should stay happy, at least make a conscious effort to remain positive and happy. It certainly needs a lot of practice. Because mind is a powerful force. It can drag one down in its loop.
Thank You for stopping by, glad you like it.
This too shall pass – is my motto too when I am faced with difficult times. It definitely take courage to go through hardships and once you are through, one would know life indeed is beautiful.

Courage and happiness link is beautifully explained in the post Dipika, I liked the way you explained with examples.
When faced with challenging situations, I always remember that ‘Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay then it’s not the end.’ And this gives a lot of strength and courage to face the challenges. Liked the examples you have shared to explain that it takes courage to be happy.
