Boulevard of Broken Dreams

100 words story

April 27, 1986, children were playing around the parks and monkey bars unaware of the massive wave of shining air particulate hovering over them.

Mothers were planning the day’s course while talking with neighbors about the loud blast everyone heard last night, ignorant of what they were breathing when the commotion broke by an announcement.

The announcement repeated, “Comrades! take only absolutely necessary, and gather outside on the streets, this is just a temporary evacuation for the safety of Prypiat residents, do not panic” those 50 minutes of gathering life and leaving everything behind etched as the infamous Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

  1. Chernobyl is considered history’s worst nuclear accident. Your story gives chills as I think how people wouod have gone through that time of tragedy. Well written.
