Suman was looking at her daughter when she realized her left hand stopped throbbing, she kept on moving her fingers to re-assure if its for true – her pain is gone at last.

Beaming pan stained teeth, she brushed her fingers to Komal’s cheeks and gave her a motherly kiss. Komal immediately braced her in tight hug – “Maa, teri beti aaj doctor ban gayi!”*

Suman could not control her tears, happily called all her sisters – “Dekho meri bitiya daactor ban gayi”**

She took stethoscope & degree from Komal’s hands and kept in her diety’s feet, “I was waiting for this day since ages, today you proved them wrong – you are not like me & will never be

Mother, you once told me if we really want something in life; whole universe conspires to make it happen! Your determination made me accomplish our dream, I will always be daughter of Suman didi of Kamathipura.

* (Mom, your daughter has become a Doctor today)

** (See, my daughter is a Doctor now)

Kamathipura is Mumbai’s oldest & Asia’s second largest red-light district.
